Who's on first?

Today, I attended my first Korean Baseball Game: The Doosan Bears vs. the KIA Tigers. I had heard that Korean Baseball games got pretty crazy, but it was definitely something to see with my own eyes. Each player has his own song when he comes up to bat, and the crowd cheers a specific song/chant/dance for each player as well. It is definitely not a sit-back-and-watch kind of experience. Whether you like Baseball or not, a Korean Baseball game is lots of fun. Unlike the American Hotdog and beer, stands outside sold dried squid, walnuts, and bottles of Soju. We cheered, we danced, and we made lots of noise. I previously had no preference, but after purchasing $2 bangers before walking in, I can see my future as a die hard Bears fan. ;)

Oh, and did I mention the game was across the street from my Korean class, free, and
it started snowing when we walked in? Yeah, talk about hardcore.

I cant wait for the weather to warm up so I can practice my cheers in the sunshine!

GO BEARS ;)

Laugh with/at me...

Back in September I started taking a photo a day, on my Mac's photobooth. In the beginning, I never forgot a day. Since I've moved to Korea the photos have been few and far between. I came across the folder, and couldn't stop laughing. I thought i'd share my favorites with whoever is out there :)

Flu shot pre-Korea

Hello (sick) Kitty
First breakfast in my new apartment, without any bowls
Spaghetti shoe laces
Too excited for Taiwan in the morning

I should start it up again, it was worth the laughs looking back.

The best part was probably the high percentage of photos in
which i was wearing my purple polka dot robe.

Goodnight, moon.

She got the whole world in her hands

We spend enough time with Kindergartners, so we decided we would start acting like some: Paper mache time. We blew up some balloons, added some Korean newspaper that we found laying around, and started making the mold for our globes.

After a few layers, we let them dry for a week.

..and then we popped the balloons inside and started painting:

Watch out world...

...We're coming for you.

White Day 3/14

This week I finally came to understand this multiple Valentine's day thing Korea has going on. So, here it goes. Valentines Day (2/14) is a day for woman to give men chocolate and gifts. White Day (3/14) is exactly a month later and is for men to give woman gifts to pay them back for the gifts we gave them on Valentines day, usually candy. Black day (4/14) is the month after that, and is for everyone who didn't get to celebrate on the first two, to eat noodles with black bean sauce and celebrate the single life. So basically, the students brought in gifts. again. Win win for us teachers, if i say so myself.

One of my new little ones came in with this awesome gift for me. The tea is delicious!

Happy (belated) White Day everyone!

Dongdaemun Craft Market

Last Saturday the girls are I headed out to Dongdaemun for the craft market. It's open Monday through Saturday, but since we work on the weekdays, Saturday was our only shot. I've been meaning to go and finally got out there to see what it's all about. It's definitely overwhelming to find and search through this giant building which seems to be abandoned, only to stumble into a random floor that comes to life. There were shops EVERYWHERE. Each stand had hundreds of little knicknacks and I could have been lost in this place for hours. Without anything specific in mind, it was hard to look for anything I needed -- so I only browsed. Kaylee and I bought some little things and made the colorful rings shown in the last picture. Once I organize my ideas and make a list, I will definitely be back at the craft market and ready to start crafting!

I made a turquoise flower ring and Kaylee made a pink and white
Hello Kitty ring, both for under 2,000 won (less than $2.00).
